I love...

Here are two looks I love from last nights MOCA Gala (Museum of Contemporary Art). Gwen Stefani rocks a simple black gown with purple stilettos and a gorgeous red lip (I heart that color combo). Nicole Richie looks muy elegante in  a mauve gown. I just had to add Rose McGowen because she used to be pretty, what happened to her face? Someone is hitting the Botox bottle a bit too hard.

Hilarious...

I need to change my wifi Network name to this! Saw this on Pinterest, love to see what people pin!

Formal wear...

Notice Jack's tie, I got this at the Container Store. They are sticky ties by evREwares and they are Reusable and just plain adorable/affordable($4.99). The sticky tie is actually material and they promise it won't tear and can be wiped clean and are safe on any surface. Just make sure you remove it before washing!

The high bun...

Back in the day (way back) when I actually made money for the work I did, I worked in publishing for a teen magazine. The fun part of the job was going out for breakfast followed by lunch events for beauty companies wanting to share their latest and greatest beauty products and my job was researching these new beauty trends to write about in the magazine. Our Beauty Department would be out all morning, that by late afternoon it was time to buckle down and get writing. The high bun which seems to be a "look" today is what we used to call the "3 O'clock" Editor bun. When you were busy at your desk you just needed to get your hair off your face.

Pretty simple to do, and all you need is a brush, elastic ban, some hair spray and a few bobby pins.

First toss your hair over and brush out, pull together to make a high pony, then grab the pony and wrap the loose hair around the elastic band and pin in place. A quick spray and you should be on your way!

The Monday Mommy Rant...

My dear friend Julie sent me an email this morning and got me teary eyed and made me laugh all at the same time. Raising Children by Anna Quindlen, a Newsweek Columnist. What an insightful letter and my kiddies are still young so there is time to really start appreciating all the little moments. The writer talks about how her children are grown and all the worrying she did raising them and just trying to get through to the next thing(i.e dinner, bath and bedtime) and how looking back she wished she would of just enjoyed more of living in those moments. When you have kids, you become so invested in the bigger picture you forget to enjoy the little snippets of their lives and one day you find yourself looking at old pictures and watching videos wishing you would of treasured those moments more. Nobody talks about how hard raising kids can be, so you go through the motions of trying to do it all and follow a specific guideline of what parenting is and trying to keep up with "the Joneses" and that can rob you of what really matters.

I read this quote from the same writer but different article titled A Teachable Moment and she talks about how hard raising kids can be, "It's almost like AA for moms: "Hi, I'm Anna, and I repeatedly ignored demands for juice and then snapped because the whining was driving me insane." It can be a great job, motherhood, but it would be nice if everyone could be more honest about how overwhelming the job can be, and more willing to find ways to support and inform the people who are trying to do it".

Families go through the same thing just different variations, parenting is hard for everyone. The lesson here is enjoy your children, laugh more and share more.

My baby boy turns 7...

I can't believe I have a seven year old! I recently was looking through old pictures and videos when he was younger and remembered a particular phase he went through. Jack would always right notes of protest if he felt he was being wronged. The hubby and I would get such a laugh, check out these two videos from January 2009, Jack had just turned four.

In the first video Jack overhears me making a dentist appointment for him and this is what I find him doing.

In the second video Jack has had enough of his daddy changing the channel from his kid show to sports(the obnoxious cough is Salma, she was sick).

Back to nature...

This past Sunday in The New York Times, front page, the topic, Waldorf Education, cultivating a lifelong love of learning through real experiences. Three hours a day are spent outside, rain or shine. My sons pre-school teacher took the children out a few times a day, I thought she was crazy dealing with all snow suits and boots but Jack really did enjoy that experience. Salma's class is walking to the library this week,  maybe I should hope for rain?

Cozy up to this...

Everyone in my household owns one of these infinity scarves. Winter just wouldn't be the same without one. They come from Brooklyn based designer, Brandi Flournoy of Brand New Knits. They are like wrapping a cloud around your neck, super cozy and keeps you toasty warm. I just ordered a bunch for holiday gifts!

Beauty must-haves...

These are two items I am never without, Aquaphor and Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate. The Aquaphor I use for everything, lips, hands, feet, you name it! Aquaphor is the reason my kiddies never, and I mean NEVER had diaper rash(I swear). The Kiehl's serum really is a miracle, you slather this on at bedtime, wake up and your face feels brand new, silky soft and no pillow marks(don't ask me how that happens). The weather is starting to change, the air is dryer, the months are getting colder so be ready.
